Report about the 15th European Week of Regions and Cities

Amélie Cousin

The European Week of Regions and Cities (EU REGIONS WEEK) is the biggest EU stakeholder event held in Brussels co-organised by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Commission. Held this year between the 9 and 12 October, the event was the platform for discussing the 7th Cohesion Report and for gathering and presenting views from regions and cities on both the proposal of the EU budget post-2020 announced for May 2018 and the subsequent legislative proposals namely with regard to cohesion policy and rural development. The EU REGIONS WEEK was also an opportunity for EU regions and cities to contribute to the debate on Europe's future and the views of regional and local authorities in this respect. Furthermore, 25 local events were organised between September and November in line with the European Committee of the Region's “Reflecting on Europe” initiative. Finally, the EU REGIONS WEEK presented the winners of the 2017 RegioStars Awards and served to launch the Cohesion Alliance, an initiative engaged to achieve a strong, efficient and visible cohesion policy post-2020.
